The concept for Sambanismo was conceived by Edson Gonzaga (known artistically as Edson Guiu) in 2012 with the intention of providing a platform for independent artists, showcasing their talent and offering opportunities in a market that may have been otherwise inaccessible. Rooted in Edson's heritage and musical vision, Sambanismo emerged as an international movement dedicated to harnessing the energies and rhythms of house music while infusing the vibrant essence of Brazilian culture. Over the years, it has not only become a musical endeavor but an encompassing urban art movement. In 2020, amidst challenging times, the Sambanismo Seminar was conceived, uniting pioneers of urban dance forms, accomplished dancer professionals, and renowned DJs from the underground house and hip-hop scenes for a series of online events. The Sambanismo Seminar brought together the global music and dance community in an online meeting multiple times for dance workshops, seminars, parties, sessions with live DJs. It was an event that featured the participation from urban dance pioneers for lectures and classes on history, theory, cultural significance and practical applications translated into several languages. The success of the online event inspired the creation of the Sambanismo Art Festival in São Paulo, Brazil and in the USA starting with Boston, Massachusetts. This is a groundbreaking celebration of diverse cultures, weaving together genres like samba, salsa, hip-hop, house, with various Brazilian and African forms of movement and dance rooted in authenticity and rich cultural heritage.
